The Chest – Playwriting Workshop with Adam Corrigan Holowitz Saturday January 19 – 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Sunday January 20 – 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm REGISTER HERE
Open The Chest and unleash your creativity in this two day playwriting workshop! The Chest is a creative dramaturgy exercise that begins with group improvisations and culminates with the individual writing of a short theatrical piece by each of the workshop participants. Day one of the workshop is The Generating where through a storytelling improvisation a single character is developed by the group. Participants then get to go and write a short piece inspired by the character. Day two is The Sharing where participants share the pieces they have written and receive dramaturgical feedback in a safe moderated setting. Adam Corrigan Holowitz is a dramaturg, playwright and director. He is the founder of London’s AlvegoRoot Theatre which develops and presents work by local playwrights. He studied new play dramaturgy at York University. Holowitz has a non-prescriptive approach to dramaturgy which puts the playwright’s process and aesthetic at the centre of his work.
This workshop is designed for both experienced and beginner artists. Along with this playwrights, theatre artists and writers of any discipline are welcome, with the understanding that writing a piece of dramatic text is a component of the work. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Cost: $100 Contact Adam Corrigan Holowitz at troubadourtheatrecollective@gmail.com if you require financial assistance or an arts worker rate. Location: Manor Park Memorial Hall 11 Briscoe St West, London, ON Space limited to 12 participants. NOTE: Participants should be prepared to write a one to two page monodrama between the end of the session on Saturday and the start of the session on Sunday. These are works in progress, and not intended to be close to a good draft.
